When we walk past someone we don’t know, we have a tendency to ignore them. Sure, we’re taught not to talk to strangers, but downright ignoring them? That’s not right. A smile is all it takes. It’s a simple way to acknowledge the presence of another. It doesn’t mean the person is your new best friend or that you have to force small talk. It just shows you recognize the existence of another human. After all, we are all human. Smiles United is a campaign dedicated to changing the world one smile at a time!



Sitting at the back of a city bus one afternoon, Josh Marusiak was people watching and realized an unfortunate truth: everyone was ignoring each other. Passengers getting on the bus just looked straight ahead, and passengers already on the bus just continued staring off into their own worlds. He realized that this occurs everywhere. When you walk by someone on the street, when you pass another shopper in the grocery store, when you’re in line at the bank; you have a tendency to ignore them all. This wasn’t right. We’re all human. Why can’t we share a simple smile with someone else? What’s so wrong with that? It occurred to Josh that he was just as guilty as everyone else. He also ignored others in every day life. He decided a change was needed and with the help of a few close friends, Smiles United was born.
